ALICE SPRINGS, Australia - In celebration of Hilton Worldwide's second annual Global Week of Service, October 6 - 12, more than 20 volunteers from DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs are pulling up their sleeves in an effort to complete a garden makeover at the Alice Springs Girl Guides hall. Community service is a tradition embedded in Hilton Worldwide's culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across ten distinct brands and 4,000 properties. DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide's week-long celebration of the company's commitment to serving the communities where we live, work and travel, which this year includes hundreds of hands-on service projects globally.

“When deciding on a community organisation to work with this year we considered a number of organisations in the community. The Alice Springs Girl Guides was a good fit with our global DoubleTree by Hilton focus, Teaching Kids To Care,“ said Clinton Farley, general manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs. “The Girl Guides have been serving the Alice Springs community for almost 80 years and are one of those organisations in the community that quietly work behind the scenes, often unrecognised for their impact on training, developing and teaching life skills to our young local people.”

The DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs activity is planned for Thursday October 10, from 3:00pm, and will include: a complete makeover of the Alice Springs Girl Guides front garden; review of irrigation; weeding; trimming trees; planting shrubs; laying new mulch and painting the front wall. “We are grateful for the support of Alice Springs Town Council and Bunnings who have come to the party in support of this exciting initiative,” said Clinton Farley.

Sue Ride, Girl Guides Head Leader, is excited about the support from DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs and the planned activity. "Our leaders, parents, and girls tend to spend a lot of time in the community fundraising to support our ongoing activities; we are delighted to be receiving a helping hand for the beautification of the Girl Guides hall and surrounds. In particular, we have most recently been fundraising for the Girl Guides State Camp being held in Alice Springs in 2014; honouring 80 years of Girl Guides in Alice Springs. The beautification project is a much appreciated activity in preparation for this."

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide's corporate offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company’s connections with its communities and bringing it closer together as a global team. In 2012, during Hilton Worldwide's inaugural Global Week of Service, Team Members at more than 600 properties and offices completed more than 800 volunteer projects in 401 cities across the company's global footprint. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide's commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 1,200 service projects.
